Gathered Evidence
2002 • 16 minutes • Amplified string quartet/real-time processing/CD samples
Gathered Evidence represents a darkly humourous collection of thoughts about the tradition of classical music and its present day status. The work features the quartet's second violinist doubling as DJ; controlling the mix of the amplified ensemble and adding effects and CD samples. From old master's revisited - Tchaikovsky in particular - to humorous juxtapositions of newer and older styles/genres, sampled voices and general chaos, Gathered Evidence is like a snapshot of our art form in the present tense.
The work was commissioned by NUMUS Concerts with the assistance of the Ontario Arts Council.
